Every business needs competent management to ensure that it can function in today's economic environment. A significant element of business success is based on the financial decisions that are made.

This course is ideal if you are interested in developing business knowledge and financial management skills. In the first year, the course focusses on the foundations of business and finance while in the second year you will build on your business knowledge and begin to develop a more detailed understanding of how different parts of the business are managed. You will develop further skills in people management and business problem solving during this stage.

During the final year, you will develop your business knowledge and management skills at the strategic level thereby providing you a broader perpective of the overall business management process.

This course is ideal if you are interested in developing business knowledge and financial management skills, if you want a choice of subjects and if you want opportunities for work experience and enterprise.

In your final year you will develop your business knowledge and management skills at a strategic level, looking at financial management and undertake a major dissertation or project. You will also have a choice of modules allowing you to pursue your areas of interest at a higher level.

Programme Structure

Year 3 = International Finance + Strategic Management + Dissertation + Option

Year 3 Contents

International Finance

This module aims to:

  • Develop a broad understanding of the international financial environment.
  • Examine relevant concepts and theories relating to an entity’s expansion beyond national borders to develop multinational corporations, and the financial implications of such expansion.
  • Consider the reporting of financial information around the world and the ongoing harmonisation of reporting standards will also be considered.
  • Stimulate debate about the impact of globalisation and internationalisation on organisations from a financial management perspective and their responsibility to stakeholders
Strategic Management

This module develops an understanding of strategic management and strategic information systems planning in different organisational and environmental contexts. It provides theoretical concepts and relevant tools for undertaking strategic analyses, considering strategic choices and making strategic recommendations

Dissertation

This module aims to provide students with the opportunity for independent learning through the completion of an extended, applied piece of research which considers academic theories, models and concepts. The indicative content includes the following:

  • Structuring the dissertation
  • Reviewing the literature
  • Learning resources
  • Research methodology
  • Designing data collection tools
  • Qualitative and quantitative research
  • Introduction to SNAP software
  • Analysing the results using a critical approach
  • Structuring and style for the final submission
Option

Students choose one of the following modules:

  • Enterprise Innovation
  • Quality & The Internet
  • Global Marketing management

What are my Career Prospects?

When you graduate there are a vast range of careers open to you. Students can undertake roles in management, finance, customer service, retail, tourism, sport, international business, communications or marketing, to name a few.

There will be the opportunity to study to become a professional accountant with a number of exemptions from initial exams being available to you due to your degree. You can continue with your studies on either a full time or a part time basis undertaking professional or masters level qualifications. Many of our students choose to continue their studies with us at this level.

Graduate Profile

This qualification opens doors in management in just about every sector. Business and Finance graduates have gone on to work as accountants, operations managers and bankers. Some of our students may use the skills and knowledge gained on the degree programme to set up their own business.
